Comets lose in overtime to Bruins in NSAA Semifinals

Watertown, S.D. – The Mayville State University Women's Basketball team lost in overtime on Saturday afternoon against Bellevue University in the NSAA Semifinals by a final score of 72-63.

How It Happened:

The Comets and Bruins batted in the first quarter, as both teams traded baskets in the final two minutes of the game as MSU took a one-point lead heading into the second quarter.

MSU jumped out to a five-point lead early in the second quarter and would extend it to seven on free throws from Hughes. The Bruins would storm back and would tie the game heading into the intermission.

Bellevue took the lead to start the third quarter and held it for most of the quarter until Zrust tied the game up with 46 seconds left in the quarter and we ended the quarter tied at 45.

The Comets took the lead in the fourth quarter and held a six-point lead with 8:00 minutes left in the game and Bellevue would continue to fight back and would take the lead with 1:59 left in the game.

Mayville State was down three with 27 seconds left in the game when Jordan Zrust hit the game-tying 3-pointer to force overtime. In overtime, MSU was held to four points and would lose in overtime to the Bruins.

For the game, MSU shot 31.8 percent from the field, 15.8 percent from behind the 3-point line, pulled in 43 free-throws, and dished out 8 assists.

They also finished the game with 32 points in the paint, 14 points off turnovers, 3-second chance points, and 4 bench points.
