Comet Softball uses long ball to force split with Dragons

Moorhead, Minn. – The Comets hit three home runs in game three to force a doubleheader split with NCAA Division II opponent MSU-Moorhead.

How It Happened: Game One
The Dragons started the scoring in the top of the first inning that scored one run on an error by the Comets.
MSUM would extend the lead in the fourth and sixth inning by scoring four runs in those two innings to jump out to a 5-0 lead.
MSU would come back in the top of the seventh inning by scoring four runs on two two-run home runs from Ontiveros and Tingey. MSU would fall short in game one 4-5.
MSU recorded four hits in the game with three of them coming in the seventh inning to spark the rally but came up short.
Payton Doerksen picked up the complete-game loss in game one going 6.0 innings allowing 3 hits, 3 earned runs and struck out 3 batters.
 
How It Happened: Game Two
The Dragons started the scoring in game two on a three-run home run to jump out to the early lead. The Comets scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a single from Ontiveros that scored Larkin. MSUM would score three more runs in the top of the third inning to extend their lead to 6-2.
Mayville State would score one run in the third inning on a single from Ontiveros into right field that scored Duval. The Dragons would extend the lead in the sixth inning to four runs. MSU would not give up and score two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Tingey two-run home run.
Brooke Roeges hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at seven and then a few batters later, Ontiveros hit a two-run walk-off home run to give the Comets a split on Thursday.
