Comet Baseball splits two extra inning games with Vikings

Valley City, N.D. – The Mayville State Baseball team picked up a 14-inning victory on Thursday in a doubleheader split with the Vikings.

How It Happened: Game One
The Mayville State Comets started the scoring in the third inning on a fielder's choice off the bat of Lundmark that scored Ferrera. The next batter, McCorrister singled to right field that scored Rocholl to make it a 2-0 game.
Valley City would answer with four runs in the third inning to take the two-run lead. The Comets would tie the game at four on a LaRocque double that scored Villanueva and Ferrera. The Vikings would take the lead in the bottom of the inning by scoring two runs.
In the eighth inning, Ferrera reached on an error that scored Satrom to make it a one-run game. Mayville State tied the game in the top of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly to the second baseman that scored Lundmark. The Comets would shut down the Vikings in the ninth inning and would force extra innings.
The Vikings would get a couple of runs in the bottom of the tenth but the comets would close that opportunity to force the 11th inning. In the fourteenth inning, Marquez would single in the game-winning run a single that scored Hughes and give the Comets a game-one victory over the Vikings.

How It Happened: Game Two
The first run of the game was scored in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Villanueva that scored Satrom.
Valley City would tie the game at one in the bottom of the seventh inning on a single to give us extra innings for the second straight game. Valley City would walk off the Comets in the bottom of the eighth inning and split the day.
