Comet Baseball opens fall season with victory over Vikings

Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State University baseball team opened the fall season with a 7-3 victory over the Vikings Tuesday evening at Scott Berry Field.

How It Happened:

Mayville State started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Johnson stole second base followed up by an error by the shortstop that allowed Villanueva to score from second base.

The Comets doubled their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on an error by the third baseman that allowed Lundmark to score the second run of the game.

Valley City State would tie the game in the top of the sixth inning on a home run. Mayville State would take the lead back in the bottom of the inning on a double from Senden that scored McCorrister and another Viking error that allowed Hughes to score the second run of the inning.

Mayville State would add three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a single from McCorrister that scored Lundmark and Johnson to extend the lead to four. Later in the inning, Senden would single to right field that would score McCorrister to give the Comets a 7-2 lead.

MSU finished the game with 7 runs, 9 hits, and 0 errors. The Comets had five stolen bases, four doubles, and drew 7 free bases.
