Mayville, N.D. - The Comets Men's Basketball team hosted the Northwest Indian College Eagles for the second half of a doubleheader on Saturday. Mayville used outstanding shooting from everywhere to handily defeat the Eagles 113-67.
The Comets got out to a lightning fast start, as they outscored the Eagles 13-2 in the first three minutes of the game.
Juan Carlos Canahuate dished three assists and scored a layup during this early run.
Mayville State steadily increased their lead throughout the first half. Seven straight points by
Jamison Kramer lifted the Comets to a 47-27 advantage with just under four minutes to half. A three pointer by
Steele Senske gave Mayville State a 62-37 lead at half.
The Comets shot 65% from the field, 57% from deep and 86% from the charity stripe in the first half. They also amassed 14 assists in the first 20 minutes.
The offense continued to hum in the second half. Kramer poured in another seven points early in the second.
Jesse Bergh scored seven consecutive points later in the half to give the Comets an 89-51 lead.
Senske added 10 straight points to eclipse the century mark with just under eight minutes left in the game. Eleven Comets ended up scoring in the game, with the final score of 113-67.
Mayville State finished the game shooting 55% from the field, 56% from three and 86% from the line.
John White Jr. paced the Comets with 22 points, with Kramer close behind at 20. Senske and Bergh added 15 apiece, and
BJ Woods reached double figures with 12.
Kramer,
Stevan Garza and
Keyshaun Bolen each pulled down five boards, Canahuate handed out eight assists and
London Williams collected three steals.
The win boosts the Comets record to 5-2. Mayville State will continue their home stand on Tuesday against the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougars, tip off is at 7:30pm.
