Box Score Bellevue, Neb. - Comet Volleyball traveled down south to Nebraska to start their final weekend of the regular season against No. 20 Bellevue. The Bruins were able to make enough plays late to win in three sets.

Head coach Katie Aasen said, "There were things that each of us did well, however, it wasn't our best performance in any area, individually or as a team."

Set one began with both offenses on point, but neither team could grab the momentum. A Nicole Kortan kill gave Mayville State a 12-9 lead and forced the Bruins into a timeout.

Bellevue scored the next four points to regain the lead, followed by the Comets coming right back. A Payton Richter ace made the score 16-14 Mayville State, but the Bruins responded with another four point run to go ahead 18-16. Bellevue never lost the lead again as they finished out set one 25-19.

The Bruins made the first move in set two, scoring four straight points to expand a slim 6-5 lead into a 10-5 advantage.

The Comets fought back and tied the game at 12 after a Madison McKinnon kill. The set stayed tight throughout the rest of the set, but Bellevue got just enough breathing room to win 25-22.

Bellevue took control early in set three, as a six point run gave the Bruins a 10-5 lead. Mayville State's offense just could not get on track, and the Bruins finished the match with five straight points to win 25-14.

Kortan led the Comet offense with 9 kills, followed by Elora Passa with 7 and Thyra Peterick with 6. Elora Passa (14) and Richter (12) combined for 26 assists and Natalie Hadrava and Elora Passa reached double figures in digs with 13 and 10 respectively.

"Whilte the timing in our season is not ideal, I think this team has proven that they are resilient and with this gorup of seven seniors, we want to stretch this season out as much as possible," said Aasen. "Going into tomorrow, we just want to compete. Work harder, play smarter and ultimately have fun. In the end, I hope we can all give it everything we've got and leave the floor with no regrets."

The loss drops the Comets record to 15-9, 6-5 in conference. Mayville State finishes up the regular season on Saturday in Madison, S.D. with a game against the Dakota State Trojans. First serve is at 12:30pm.
