Madison, S.D - Comet volleyball wrapped up the 2023 regular season with a conference matchup against the Dakota State Trojans. The Trojans were able to come away with the victory in three sets.

The Trojans shot out of the gate in set one and sprinted out to a 13-2 lead. The Comets were able to generate some offense towards the end of the set, but Dakota State still cruised to a 25-12 win.

The Comets took the initiative in set two, as an Elora Passa kill gave Mayville State an early 7-3 lead. Dakota State went on a 6-0 run to turn an 11-9 deficit into a 15-11 advantage. It was a lead the Trojans never relinquished as they took set two 25-20.

Set three featured a number of ties and lead changes as both teams battled for the upper hand. Dakota State managed to take a 17-13 lead off a 5-1 spurt. The Comets responded with four straight points to knot the game at 17.

Unfortunately, the Trojans rattled off a 6 to 0 run to go ahead 24-18 and eventually completed the sweep 25-19.

Elora Passa led the Comets offense with 13 kills and 17 assists. Payton Richter added 11 assists and 10 digs, while Natalie Hadrava racked up 12 digs.

Dakota State and Mayville State will meet again Thursday evening in the NSAA quarterfinal match.  First serve is slated for 6 p.m. (after the No. 6 seed Waldorf, Iowa, versus No. 3 seed Bellevue, Neb. first quarterfinal match at 4 p.m. on the same day).
