Box Score Bellevue, NE - The Comets Women's Basketball team finished their weekend on the road against the Bellevue Bruins. Mayville State overcame a slow start to come back and defeat the Bruins 73-60.

The first quarter was a rough one for the Comets. Mayville State was ice cold from the field and committed some early turnovers, and Bellevue jumped out to a 15-2 lead. The Comets settled down and scored the last eight points of the quarter, chopping the deficit to 15-10 after 10 minutes.

Both teams played even in the second quarter, and the Bruins maintained a lead between three to six points throughout. The Comets started to get to the rim late in the second, with CJ Decker and Jordan Zrust layups to keep Mayville State within four at halftime, 28-24.

"We played with so much more purpose in the second half today. We also defended well all game. We definitely made more shots this game and took care of the ball better today," said head Coach Dennis Hutter, coming off of the loss from No. 11 Dakota State the night before.

Zrust started to make things happen in the third quarter and scored seven straight points for the Comets, which included a three pointer to give Mayville State their first lead of the game at 34-33. Zrust finished with 11 points in the quarter, which helped the Comets trim the lead to a single point going into the fourth.

The Comets offense got hot in the fourth. Mayville State connected on 9 of 10 field goal attempts, which included four from beyond the arc and also nailed 8 of 9 from the charity stripe.

Jes Mertens poured in 11 points in the final quarter, while Zrust added 8. The Comets outscored the Bruins 30-16 to storm back and win the game 73-60.

Zrust led all scorers with 23 points and collected her fifth double-double of the season by collecting 10 rebounds. Mertens finished in double figures with 17 points.

The win bumps the Comets record to 16-3, 5-1 in the conference. Mayville State returns to the Lewy Lee next Friday to host the Valley City State Vikings, tip off is at 5:30pm.

"It will be so nice to be at home for the next two weekends. We have been on the road quite a bit in December and January," added Hutter.
