Dickinson, N.D. - Mayville State Comet Football came off a bye week Saturday, taking on No. 22 ranked Dickinson State on the road.
A 42 point first half for the Blue Hawks would be the difference maker in the Comets loss.Â
"The Dickinson State loss was my fault," said head coach
Rocky Larson. "I am going to grow from this as a head coach and make sure that I have our team better prepared in the final three weeks."
The Blue hawks put up 14 points in the first quarter and 14 more in the second before the Comets were able to get anything going.
Down 28-0, the Comets looked for any sign of hope heading into halftime. With 6 minutes and 30 seconds left on the clock, Dylan LaMont found Javeion Davison who went 53 yards for a touchdown. Kaden Johnson's extra point was good and the Comets trailed 7-28.Â
Before the half was over, Dickinson State managed to put up two more touchdowns, extending their lead 42-7 heading into the half.Â
Defense would be hold the Blue Hawks for all of the third quarter and Mayville State would be able to score after LaMont connected with Davison for the second time of the day.Â
That was all the offense would do for Mayville State and the Blue Hawks would add another 7 early in the fourth to put them ahead 49-14 and take the sweep over the Comets this season.Â
"Playing everyone a second time around, we need to make sure we are ready for everything," commented Larson. "But, I am looking forward to having two of the final three games at home. I want our group to keep playing hard and together because we have a chance to finish in the top half of the conference in the final year in the North Star."
The Comets will host Jamestown next Saturday, October 26th at 2pm. Mayville State beat the Jimmies 26-20 earlier in the season on the road in Jamestown.Â
