Madison, S.D. - Mayville State Comet Volleyball hit the road Saturday for the opening round of the 2024 NSAA Conference Tournament.
The Comets, who entered the tournament as the 6th seed, took on the three seed, the Dakota State University Trojans, who are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.
The Trojans swept the Comets both home and away this year in regular season play. The Comets entered the tournament 1-9 in conference play and 8-18 overall.
Despite a thrilling third set that saw 31 points, Dakota State would take all three from the Comets (18-25, 29-31, 21-25), ending their season.
Samantha Passa led the way for Mayville State in what would be her last game in a Comets uniform. She had a double double racking up 14 kills, 10 digs and 4 blocks.
Madison McKinnon recorded 10 kills and 4 blocks &
Abby Cox followed behind her with 8 kills. Both McKinnon & Cox, also in their last game as Comets.
Lindsey Nyhagen and
Noelle Erickson led the way with assists. Nyhagen had 19 and Erickson had 17.
The Comets graduate 9 impactful seniors this year, however, they return players like
Desidy Schwanke,
Lindsey Nyhagen,
Tori Richter,
Noelle Erickson and
Andrea Majchrzak who all got significant minutes this year.
