Mayville, N.D. - The Comets Men's Basketball hosted the Dickinson State Blue Hawks in a North Star Conference semifinal on Sunday. Mayville State's cold shooting allowed the Blue Hawks to pull off the upset 71-59.

Jamison Kramer propelled the Comets to an 8-5 lead with four points apiece. The Blue Hawks took the lead on a 7-0 run. With eight minutes left in the first half, Dickinson led 20-15, but the Comets stormed back with six consecutive points to retake the lead at 21-20.
That lead was short-lived as the Blue Hawks responded with an 8-0 run to claim a 28-21 advantage. Mayville State was able to chip the lead down to four points by halftime at 31-27.
The teams traded baskets in the first few minutes of the second half. A
Juan Carlos Canahuate jumped tied the game at 35 at the 14 minute mark. The Blue Hawks then scored eleven straight points in a four minute stretch to lead 46-35.
Another 7-0 run by Dickinson made the score 58-43 with four and a half minutes remaining. The Blue Hawks converted 10 of 11 free throws down the stretch to prevent a last minute comeback to win 71-59.
The Comets shot only 40% from the field and went 3 of 17 from the three point line.
Canahuate led the Comets in scoring with 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Kramer also reached double figures with 12 and
Darren Jones grabbed nine boards to lead the team.
The Comets record now stands at 20-9. Mayville State will wait to see if they receive an at-large berth for the NAIA National tournament.
