Baseball Finishes Regular Season with Win Against Cobbers

Moorhead, Minn. – Comets Baseball finished out the regular season on Thursday in a non-conference 9 inning game against the Concordia Moorhead Cobbers.
A late push in the 7th by the Comets would allow them to take the game 6-5.

Mayville State got on the board first in the second inning when Teigen Parenteau hit a 2 out single to right field and Ricky Marquez hit a home run to left.

Comets put up another run in the third with a SAC fly from Parenteau to extend their lead 3-0.

The Cobbers would lead the bottom of the 3rd off by reaching first on an error. They would be able to then push 2 runs across the board to cut their deficit to 2-3.

Concordia was able plate 3 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the 5th, taking the lead 5-3.

The Comets would rally in the 7th inning starting it off with Carson Lundmark hitting a single up the middle.

Chris Shopbell would come to the plate and hit a 2-run home run to tie the game at 5.

2 singles and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for Mayville State, and Parenteau would be able to drive in a run with a ground ball to second making the score 6-5.

Connor Cory came in to pitch in the bottom of the 8th, going three up, three down.

Gunnar Thompson would follow suite in the bottom of the 9th, closing the game and sealing the Comet win!

Mayville State score 6 runs on 14 hits, 9 different Comets tallied at least one hit.

Ricky Marquez was 1-4 with 2 RBI, 1 HR
Teigen Parenteau went 1-4 with 1 RBI

Derek Palmiere started on the mound for the Comets. He pitched 4 innings giving up 5 runs on 5 hits and striking out 3.
 
Connor Cory and Gunner Thompson would close things out in the 8th and 9th, giving up zero runs and zero hits.
 
Mayville State has now completed their regular season at 12-37 over all and 6-17 in conference tournament.
 
The Comets will play in the NSAA conference tournament starting next Friday at Dakota Community Bank & Trust hosted by Dickinson State University.
