Football takes down Jimmies on the road 26-20

Mayville, N.D. - Mayville State University Comet Football hit the road to Jamestown today where they took on the Jimmies for the first time since 2017.

A 20 point second quarter would propel the Comets to a win over Jamestown. Mayville State had not beaten the Jimmies since 2000, where the score was also 20-26.

The Jimmies got on the board first by a touch down late in the first quarter and then again midway through the 2nd to have a 14-0 lead.

Shortly after Jamestown's second touch down, Xyler Carlson returned a kick 92 yards for a touch down. An extra point by Kaden Johnson cut the Comets deficit in half.

Jack Simmers then tied things up when he took it himself for 2 yards. Another extra point by Kaden Johnson tied things up 14-14.

As time expired in the second quarter, Dylan LaMont threw a 25 yard touch down pass to Darren Jones and the Comets took the lead 20-14 heading into halftime.

Neither teams offense would cause too much excitement in the 3rd quarter and heading into the fourth the score remained 20-14.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Jack Simmers found Darren Jones to extend the Comets lead 26-14. The Comets would attempt two but failed.

With just over 4 minutes left to go in the fourth, Jamestown scored a touch down to make the score 26-20 Comets but that's all Mayville State would allow, taking the game 26-20.
