Mayville State Falls in Tight Five-Set Match to Rocky Mountain

MAYVILLE, N.D. — The Mayville State University women's volleyball team went fight sets Friday night, but ultimately fell to Rocky Mountain College, 3–2 (16–25, 25–23, 21–25, 25–23, 15–12), at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.

After dropping the opening set, the Comets bounced back, taking the second 25–23 to even the match. Rocky Mountain regained control in the third, but Mayville once again answered with a clutch fourth-set victory, forcing a decisive fifth frame. The Battlin' Bears, however, capitalized on a few late opportunities to edge out the win.

Desidy Schwanke and Andrea Majchrzak each recorded 11 kills to pace the Comet attack, while Lindsey Nyhagen distributed 26 assists and added two service aces. Defensively, Tori Richter anchored the back row with an impressive 38 digs, helping the Comets extend rallies throughout the evening.

Statistically, the two teams were nearly identical. Mayville finished with 56 kills on a .148 hitting percentage, compared to Rocky Mountain's 57 kills at .183. The Comets held slight advantages in service aces (12–7) and total blocks (7–6), but the Bears' steadiness on the attack proved to be the difference in the deciding set.

The Comets will host Carroll College for another Frontier match-up on Saturday at 2:00pm. For full schedule details visit: https://msucomets.com/sports/womens-volleyball/schedule
