MAYVILLE, N.D. — The Mayville State Comets hosted Dakota State in their final home game of the season late Saturday afternoon where they couldn't overcome an early surge from the Trojans, falling 44–14.
Dakota State jumped out quickly with 10 unanswered points in the first quarter, then broke the game open in the second with three touchdowns before halftime. The Comets' lone first-half score came on a determined 4-yard touchdown run by Edward Norton, who powered through the line to cap a short drive midway through the quarter.
Trailing 31–7 at the break, Mayville State found limited opportunities to rally against the Trojans' balanced attack. The Comets' defense tightened in the third quarter, forcing several stops, and the offense found the end zone again on a late touchdown pass to cut into the margin.
Despite the effort, Dakota State's offensive consistency proved too much, as the visitors added two more scores in the second half to seal the 44–14 win.
