MAYVILLE, N.D. — Despite three competitive, back-and-forth sets, the Mayville State University Comets came up just short Wednesday night, falling 25-23, 25-22, 25-21 to Dakota State at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.

Mayville State kept pressure on the Trojans throughout the match, but timely runs allowed Dakota State to secure the sweep.

The opening set set the tone for the night. The Comets traded points early and held multiple one-point leads before Dakota State pieced together a brief surge to edge ahead late. Mayville State fought off set point once but couldn't extend the frame, dropping it 25-23.

Set two followed a similar script. The Comets continued to score efficiently on the outside and kept the deficit narrow, but the Trojans once again capitalized on key points down the stretch to escape with a 25-22 decision.

Mayville State pushed again in the third, closing within a point several times, but Dakota State's front-row presence proved decisive as the visitors closed out the match 25-21.

Offensively, the Comets were led by Desidy Schwanke, who delivered a standout performance with 13 kills on an impressive .500 hitting percentage. Andrea Majchrzak added 10 kills and contributed at the net with two blocks.

Defensively, Talimailelagi Cornillez anchored the back row with 16 digs, while the Comets totaled 60 digs as a team, reflecting a strong defensive effort throughout the night.
