Baseball drops two games in Dickinson Friday

Dickinson, N.D. - The Mayville State Comets Baseball team headed west to Dickinson, N.D. Friday where they faced conference opponents Dickinson State and the University of Jamestown. 

In the first game of the day, the Comets fell to Dickinson 4-9 and later would fall to a close game against the Jimmies, 2-4.

Game 1: L 4-9 vs. Dickinson State Blue Hawks
- Comets get on the board first when Carson Lundmark hit a solo home run over the right field fence in the third to put the Comets up 1-0
- Blue Hawks immediately respond in the bottom of the 3rd with a lead off home run to tie the game
- Dickinson State would tack on two more runs with a 2 out double to make the score 3-1 heading into the 4th
- Mayville State gets things going in the top of the 4th when the Comets would load the bases and Quinn Pershing would be able to cross the plate on a wild pitch
- Jalen Denton followed that up a with an RBI to second base, tying the game 3-3
- Dickinson State would add 6 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the 4th to take the lead 8-3
- Juan Villarreal gave the Comets some life in the top of the 6th when he hit a solo home run to left field but that would be all for the Comets 

Team Leaders:
- Chris Shopbell went 2-4, 1 2B, 1 SB
- Jack McQueen went 2-3, 1 BB, 1 2B
- Carson Lundmark & Juan Villarreal both had solo home runs

On the Mound:
- Garret Lundmark got another start on the mound throwing 3 complete innings giving up 7 runs on 5 hits, 5 earned. He struck out 6 and walked 5.
- Jack Patten came in mid-relief throwing a complete inning giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits. He tallied one strike out and had no walks.
- Isaac Mata would close out the game, going 2 full innings giving up just 1 hit and 1 HBP but zero runs and zero walks.

Game 2: L 2-4 vs. University of Jamestown Jimmies
- Jamestown gets on the board early, scoring 2 runs in the top of the first
- With 2 outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the 2nd, Jack McQueen gets on due to an error by the Jimmies, plating a run to make it a 2-1 ball game
- Things are quiet until the top of the 6th when the Jimmies are able to score two more runs to extend their lead 4-1
- In the Bottom of the 6th, Kevin Conway led the inning off with a solo home run to left field to make it 4-2 Jamestown
- The Comets would go 3 up 3 down in the bottom of the 7th and the Jimmies would get the win

Team Leaders:
- Kevin Conway when 2-3 with a solo HR
- Carson Lundmark, Chris Shopbell & Jalen Denton all recorded a hit apiece 

On the Mound:
- Derek Palmiere got the start against the Jimmies, throwing 5.2 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits. He struck out 4 and walked 1. 
- Jack Wold came in the bottom of the 6th, pitching 1.1 giving up 0 hits, 0 walks and 0 runs

The Comets will face the Valley City State Vikings tomorrow at 12pm CT and then get a rematch with the Jimmies at 5pm CT.
