Mayville, N.D. – The Mayville State volleyball team went toe-to-toe with NCAA Division III Concordia College on Tuesday night, pushing the Cobbers to a deciding fifth set before ultimately falling 3–2 (16-25, 25-15, 25-18, 20-25, 15-9).
The Comets came out strong in the opening set, swinging efficiently and using aggressive serving to roll to a 25-16 win. Concordia answered in sets two and three, taking advantage of Mayville State's attack errors to grab control of the match. With their backs against the wall, the Comets responded in the fourth, putting together a balanced attack to even things up at two sets apiece.
The fifth set was tight early, but Concordia strung together key points down the stretch and closed out the match 15-9.
Desidy Schwanke led the way for Mayville with 14 kills to go along with 12 digs, while Andrea Majchrzak added 13 kills and two blocks. Kathryn Agnew chipped in nine kills, and libero Tori Richter anchored the back row with 22 digs. As a team, Mayville State totaled 46 kills, seven service aces, and 73 digs in the hard-fought effort.
