Mayville, N.D. — The Mayville State volleyball team showed grit and resilience Thursday night, rallying in the decisive fifth set to edge Dickinson State, 3–2, in a Frontier Conference Match Up in the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse.

The Comets took control early, grinding out a tense first set that stretched into extra points before claiming a 28–26 win. Mayville carried that momentum into the second, using strong serving and efficient side-out play to notch a 25–19 victory and jump ahead 2–0.

But the Blue Hawks refused to go quietly. Dickinson State surged back in sets three and four, tightening their defense at the net and riding the hot hand of Aubrey Allison, who finished with a match-high 19 kills. The Blue Hawks stormed through with 25–18 and 25–17 wins to even the match and force a decisive fifth set.

That's where the Comets regrouped. Mayville's defense, led by libero Tori Richter's 47 digs, set the tone, while middle blocker Kathryn Agnew dominated at the net with 10 blocks. Behind Desidy Schwanke's 15 kills, the Comets seized an early lead and never looked back, closing out the final frame 15–9 to seal the road victory.

Statistically, the teams were nearly identical—both surpassing 100 digs and finishing with just two kills separating them. The Comets, however, owned a slight edge at the net with 13 blocks to Dickinson's 10.

Mayville State returns home Friday night for a conference match up with Bismarck State College. The Comets host Parents Night and SAAC is hosting a Jersey Theme. First serve is set for 6pm.
