Valley City, N.D. - Mayville State Comet Volleyball made their Frontier Conference debut on Wednesday night on the road against Valley City State. The Comets put up a strong effort, but came up short, falling in three sets to the Vikings (20–25, 17–25, 15–25).
The Comets worked hard to extend rallies, out-digging the Vikings 54–50. Senior libero Tori Richter anchored the back row with a match-high 16 digs, while junior Desidy Schwanke added 11.
On the offensive side, Andrea Majchrzak paced Mayville State with eight kills, supported by Schwanke and Cadynce Dewitz, who chipped in five each. The setting duo of Noelle Erickson & Lindsey Nyhagen combined for 27 assists, with Erickson finishing with 15 and Nyhagen 12. Erickson also added an ace to her stat line.
Mayville State will look to regroup quickly as they will have their home opener against Montana Tech on Friday at 6pm, followed up by Montana Western on Saturday at 12pm. Montana Tech is ranked 21st in the nation, while Montana Western is receiving votes in the Top 25 national poll.Â
