Comets fall to #21 Montana Tech & (RV) Montana Western in Home Debut

Mayville, N.D. - Mayville State Comet Volleyball made their 2025 season home debut on Friday night against No. 21 ranked Montana Tech then had a quick turnaround on Saturday, hosting Montana Western, who is receiving vote in the NAIA Top 25 National Poll. The Frontier Conference currently has seven teams ranked in the nation.

Friday night, the Comets came up short, losing all 3 sets (18-25, 18-25, 19-25). On Saturday, they fell to Montana Western 0-3 (14–25, 14–25, 19–25).

Friday Night:

  • Set 1: Montana Tech surged ahead behind multiple service aces and timely kills. Mayville State trailed early and fell 18-25.

  • Set 2: Despite competitive rallies, the Comets couldn't close the gap, ultimately falling again with a matching scoreline of 18-25.

  • Set 3: The most competitive frame saw Mayville State push back, but Montana Tech maintained control to clinch the set and match, 25-19.

Saturday Afternoon:
  • Set 1: Montana Western came out strong at the net while the Comets struggled to find offense & eventually falling to the Bulldogs 14-25.

  • Set 2: Despite improving their attack, the Comets couldn't get the momentum away from the Bulldogs & fell by the same score of 14-25.

Set 3: Again, the third set would be the most competitive for the Comets, but Montana Western snagged the final set 19-25.
