Schmit enters his first season with the Comets women's basketball coaching staff after experiences with Northwestern College, Minnesota State University Moorhead and the University of South Dakota.
During his 2024-25 season at Northwestern, the Raiders ended the season receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, posting an overall record of 18-12 and 14-8 in the GPAC. They would post a bid to the NAIA National Tournament, but fall in the first round to No. 7 seeded MidAmerica Christian University.Â
A 2023 USD graduate with a degree in sports management, Schmit spent time on the Coyotes' women's basketball scout team, was a ticket sales representative in the athletic office, and was an intern for the women's basketball coaching staff. As an intern, Schmit focused on the operations of game days and practices while also completing office tasks.
Following his stint at USD, Schmit spent a season with the Minnesota State University Moorhead women's basketball program as a graduate assistant, serving as their Director of Operations.
Schmit, originally from Osmond, Nebraska, is obtaining a master's degree in education leadership from MSU Moorhead.
