Coach JC Canahuate first arrived at Mayville State University in 2022 to play basketball and pursue getting a degree in Business Administration which he graduated with in the spring of 2024.  JC played 2 years year and helped lead his team to a 45-15 record with winning the Conference Tournament Championship his first year sending him to the National Tournament. He had almost 400 points and around 250 assists in his 2 years here.

Before coming to Mayville State, JC went to Central Arizona College, which is a junior college in Arizona where he played basketball for 2 years. Throughout his years in college he scored over 1,000 points and at both Central Arizona and Mayville and he was top 5 in the nation for total assists.

JC attended high school at Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, California. He has some professional playing under his belt both playing for the Dominican National Team when he was younger, and he has played for a few professional teams back home in the Dominican Republic.

JC is originally from Santiago which is in the Dominican Republic but was able to play both high school and college basketball in the United States where he was able to pursue his dream and get a great education.
This is JC’s first year being an assistant coach but hasn’t been the first time he has “coached” basketball. Being a point guard his whole life he has been a teacher of the game to his teammates.
