Ashley Holmstrom leads Comet women to 87-62 victory over Dakota State

Ashley Holmstrom is making the most of her lone season in Comet blue and Saturday's game with Dakota State University was no exception.  The senior from Hunter, North Dakota went 8-for-10 from the floor and 5-for-5 from the free throw line as she led the Comets with 21 points and eight rebounds.  She also added four steals and two assists in the game.

Holmstrom did a little bit of everything in this game.  Whether it was scoring around the basket, grabbing rebounds, or even leading the break for a score off one of her steals, she made her presence felt.

Megan Groen is also having a good senior season for Mayville State.  Groen followed Holmstrom going for 16 points and eight rebounds.  Groen did a great job getting to the lane off the dribble and creating chances for her teammates.

Hailey Longtin didn't get into the flow of the offense until the second half but the sophomore guard finished strong with 15 points, four assists, three steals, and two rebounds.  Erin Ericson rounded out the bulk of the scoring with 10 points.

The Comets pride themselves on defense and had a good night on that side of the floor tonight.  Dakota State shot just 35% from the floor and turned the ball over 31 times against the Comet defense.

The Trojans were down just nine points at halftime before Mayville State made their run, literally.  The Comets got out in the open floor and made some great plays off turnovers.  The Comets had 21 assists on 28 made shots in this one as they spread the ball around well.  Kay Laforet again led the team in assists with six in the game.  She did a great job finding her open teammates and getting them the ball in position to score.

Sharee Galbraith led the Trojans tonight with 14 points and nine rebounds.  Kyle Westover followed with 10 points.

Mayville State University (6-0) will be off to La Crosse, Wisconsin as they play in the Viterbo Classic next weekend.  The times of the games are to be announced but the Comets will play Friday the 11th, and Saturday the 12th on the road.
