MAYVILLE, ND -- Mayville State University hosted the Valley City State University Vikings in women's basketball on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse. This game was the home finale for the Comets and the last time
Kelli Smart would play at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse in her career.
The Comets had a great game defensively holding the Vikings to 32% shooting in the first half and just 24 points. The Comets were struggling to hit shots as they found themselves down at halftime 24-14. The offense got going in the second half but it wasn't enough as the Vikings cruised to a 68-45 victory.
Laura Taylor led the Comets with 12 points and 18 rebounds in the game. Taylor was all over the glass on both ends with nine offensive and defensive rebounds.
Hailey Longtin also chipped in with 12 points and two steals.
The Vikings were led on offense by Amanda Brown with 15 points. Mandi Bindas and Caitlyn Wojahn followed Brown with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Comets won't have to wait long before they get another shot at the Vikings as they travel to Valley City on Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011 for the first round of the DAC playoffs.
