Comets come up short against Jamestown in defensive battle, fall 66-51

MAYVILLE, ND – Travis Burley finished the night with a double-double as he led the Jamestown College Jimmies to a tough win over the Mayville State University Comets 66-51. Burley finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds against the Comets.

Davon Thomas and Byron Jones scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. Thomas came off the bench for the Jimmies to provide offense in a defensive ballgame.

Mayville State trailed the Jimmies by two at the break with the score at 29-27. The two teams traded baskets for a good part of the second half before Jamestown was able to start hitting shots and getting second chance points off offensive rebounds. The Jimmies out-rebounded Mayville State 30-19 in the game.

Gus Kueber led the Comets with 19 points tonight. Kueber was 5-for-6 from the free throw line while finishing with four rebounds, three assists, and a block. Cody Aassness was next in the scoring column with eight points. Eric Schulstad scored six.

It was a rough night shooting the ball for Mayville State as the team finished shooting just 35% from the floor. The Jimmies weren't much better at 41%, but it was enough to get them out of the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse victorious.
