The Mayville State University women's basketball team went 2-0 this past weekend in a pair of games against the MN Morris Cougars and the Oglala Lakota College Bravehearts.
The Comets traveled to Morris, MN on Friday, December 7 to play the Cougars for the second time in ten days. The first contest saw the Comets win a 2OT shootout thriller 103-99. This past Friday the Comets were hot from the start and stifled the Cougars with their defense taking a 45-25 lead into half time and never looked back. The Comets continued to press and took home an 80-56 victory. The Comets were led in scoring by Hailey Longtin who put up 14 points, followed by Samantha Heier and Sabrina Rude with 13 and 12 points. The Comets ripped down 18 offensive rebounds including five from Missy Kassube. The Comets shot 45% from the field and 30% from the three point arc. Mayville State forced 27 MN Morris turnovers and held the Cougars to 39% shooting from the field and 10% from behind the arc.
The Mayville State women continued their roll with a dominant win over the Oglala Lakota College Bravehearts 100-31. The Comets were led in scoring by Sabrina Rude who put up 19 points on the afternoon. Nicole Meyer had a big day putting in 17 points for Mayville State. Missy Kasube pulled down 9 rebounds for the Comets including four on the offensive glass.
The Mayville State women's basketball team is now 9-1 on the season. They travel to Minneapolis this weekend to take on Crown College on Firday and North Central College on Saturday.
