Comet men come up short on the road against Minnesota-Morris; Lose 74-72

Box Score MORRIS, MN – Mayville State locked up with Minnesota-Morris for the second time this season on Friday night, this time in Morris, MN. The Cougars bested the Comets 80-75 in the first contest in Mayville and were able to edge out one more win over MSU by a score of 74-72.

Morris had a two point lead (32-30) going into the half and the teams played even (42-42) in the second 20 minutes as the Cougars handed the Comets their sixth loss of the year.

The Comet offense was led by freshman guard, Josh DeWitt. Coach DeWitt's brother knocked down 5-of-6 from downtown and added two free throws for a total of 17 points off the bench. He collected two assists and a rebound as well in the game.

Charlton Wilson and DJ Carroll followed DeWitt with 14 points apiece in the game. All three of them (DeWitt, Carroll, Wilson) had fouled out by the end of the game.

The Cougars biggest advantage was on the glass with a 40-25 advantage.

MSU kept themselves in the game with a 10-of-19 effort from beyond the arch. DeWitt hit five, Alex Herman knocked down three, and Mike Lindsay made two.

The Comets outshot the Cougars .500 to .453 in the game. They were also 12-for-15 (80%) from the free throw line, compared to 13-for-21 (62%) for the Cougars.

Mayville State (4-6, 0-0) will play Oglala Lakota College at home on Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. and Sunday is 4:00 p.m.
