The Mayville State Women's basketball team traveled to Valley City State on Wednesday, February 13
th to take on the arch rival Vikings.
This was an exciting back and forth contest through the first 10 minutes of play with either team being able to pull away. Mayville State started to gain some momentum as
Hailey Longtin got it going with a pair of 3 point baskets giving the Comets an edge by 11. The lead was extended to 14 before Valley City State battled back and managed to cut the lead to 5 at the break.
Valley City State came out firing in the second half taking an early lead and extending it to 10 with 12:15 to play. The Comets battled back to tie the game with 4 minutes to play setting the stage for an epic finish. Valley City State just made a few more plays than the Comets down the stretch in front of their home crowd, and took the lead for good. After the dust settled the score was 79-85 in favor of the Vikings.
The Comets were led in scoring by
Marcisa McMillan who had 24 points and 6 rebounds.
Hailey Longtin had a solid game for the Comets finishing with 24 points going 5-10 from the arc.
Kay Laforet also chipped in 10 points.
Despite the loss the Comets will have a chance to solidify the top seed in the A.I.I. tournament with a win in their upcoming game against Jamestown College. The Comets will host the Jimmies on Sunday, February 17
th. Game time is set for 4 pm.
