Jimmies Second Half Surge Defeats Comets

Early second half run sparks Jimmies to a victory over MSU.

JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- . Brequan Tucker's impressive offensive performance helped lead the University of Jamestown to a 63-50 victory over Mayville State University on Wednesday night at the Jamestown Civic Center.

The Jimmies (9-11, 1-0 NSAA) shot a staggering 54.5 percent from the floor in the second half , including four of their 11 made three-pointers in the game.

Tucker led all scorers with a 21 point performance, while Mark Hoge added 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including five baskets from behind the arc. Taylor Newton poured in 14 points as the third Jimmie to reach double figures in scoring.

MSU opened the second half and cut the Jimmie lead to one point within three minutes. The Jimmies then extened their lead up to 11 points with 12 minutes remaining in the game. The second half continued to go in favor of the Jimmies as they kept the Comets at bay for the final 12 minutes and  finally won the game by a final score of 63-50.

Mayville State (6-11, 0-1 NSAA) was led by a 10 point effort from both Michael Lindsay and Colin Fitz. Lindsay grabbed five rebounds to go along with his 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting.

Fitz shot 4-of-9 from the floor and grabbed four rebounds.

Easton Page led the Comets in assists as he picked up six of the teams 11 in the game.

The Comets were held to a  .293 shooting percentage in the game.

The Comet defense was able to force 22 Jimmie turnovers. Lindsay led the team with three steals.

The Jimmies held a 39-30 rebounding advantage. Jonathon Butler led the Comets with seven rebounds, Andrew Berge followed with six.

Next action for the Comet men will be Saturday, January 25, 2013 against Valley City State University (8-10, 0-0) at 6:30 p.m.
