Heier records triple-double in Comets 93-62 win over Dakota State

Current NSAA player-of-the-week Heier continues her exceptional play in victory.

Madison, S.D.  – The Comet women's basketball team picked up their 17th win of the season and third conference victory in convincing fashion over Dakota State University on Wednesday night. The reigning NSAA conference player-of-the-week, Samantha Heier, continued her excellent play with a triple double in the win.

Four Comets found their way to double digit scoring in the contest, led by Hailey Longtin's game-high 23 points. She shot the ball very well in this game going 8-of-14 from the floor, including an unconscious 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.

Marcisa McMillan followed with another solid effort going for 18 points and 15 rebounds; her eighth double-double of the season.

Liza Hoglo added 10 points, three rebounds, and two steals in the game.

The big story in this game, however, was Heier. After two stellar performances last weeks in wins over #5 Jamestown (17 points, 8-10 FTs) and Valley City (14 points, 10 rebounds) she turned in her best game yet as a Comet basketball player. She scored 11 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and turned in 10 assists. She also finished the game with five steals as well. She was getting it done in all facets of the game.

Individual performances aside, the Comets played very well as a team. They had advantages in shooting percentage (47% to 28%), rebounds (50 to 45), assists (24 to 12) and steals (13 to 6).

MSU jumped on the Dakota State early and had a 20 point advantage going into the half at 46-26. They didn't allow the Trojans back into it in the second half with a 47-36 advantage as they rolled to a 93-62 victory improving their record to 17-2 and 3-0 in the NSAA standings.

Mayville State (17-2, 3-0 NSAA) returns home to the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse this weekend for another conference tilt, this time against Presentation College (4-15, 0-2 NSAA) on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 4:00 p.m.
