Mayville State falls to Presentation 70-69 at the Buzzer

Comets lose heart breaker at the buzzer in back-and-forth game.

Eleven ties and eight lead changed kept the fans on the edge of their seat throughout the men's basketball game between Presentation College and Mayville State University on Saturday night at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville, North Dakota.

Gregory Garrett scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Saints offensively, but his biggest play ended up being the game-winning play for PC.

With 25 seconds left in the game and possession of the ball, the Saints took the go-ahead shot with 10 seconds to go as Garrett go himself to the basket and converted for a 70-69 lead with 10 seconds remaining.

The Comets advanced the ball past half-court, called a timeout and drew up the final play with three seconds remaining in the game.

Michael Lindsay, who turned in an excellent game with 16 points and eight rebounds in 33 minutes, got the ball at the free throw line looking to make a game-winning shot. A very physical final play saw Lindsay get a lay-up attempt off that was contested hard by Presentation and ended up off the mark as Lindsay hit the floor.

The two teams played close throughout with the largest lead for the Saints four points and the largest for the Comets eight points.

Following Lindsay's 16 points was David Olson with 14 in the game. Olson, a freshman from Fargo, North Dakota was 5-of-6 from the field and 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. He also finished the game with three rebounds for the Comets.

Easton Page followed with 11 points, three assists, and two rebounds. Page played well in the game doing the majority of the ball handling against a group of physical guards for the Saints. He didn't get much time to catch his breath as he played 36 minutes in the game.

Jonathon Butler was next with 10 points and seven rebounds. Like Page, Butler didn't rest much in the game with a 36-minute night for the Comets.

The loss drops the Comets to 6-14 this season and 0-3 in the NSAA. They will get another crack at the Saints as they travel to Aberdeen, South Dakota on February 15th, 2014 in the final road game of the season.

Next action for Mayville State (6-14, 0-3 NSAA) is Tuesday, February 4th, 2014 at home against Trinity Bible College. The game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.]
