Jonathon Butler had 22 points, four rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal but VCSU completed the season sweep of the Comets with a 69-59 victory on Wednesday night.
AJ McDonald had 19 points, two rebounds, and two steals for VCSU (13-11, 4-1 NSAA) to help the Vikings defeat their archrivals for the second time this season.
Valley City got out to an early lead building a 36-20 lead at the half. MSU made a second half push and outscored the Vikings 39-33 to end the game.
Michael Lindsay had a solid game for Mayville State with his fourth straight game in double digits. The junior forward had 13 points, 10 rebounds for the Comets. He went 9-of-10 at the free throw line and finished the game with three steals.
Alex Herman was the third Comet to score double figures with a 10 point performance.
Mayville State outrebounded the Vikings (37-31) in the game.
Easton Page followed Lindsay with six rebounds for the Comets. Colin Fitz and Butler each added four rebounds.
MSU (7-16, 0-6 NSAA) remains winless in the NSAA this season and will look to break that streak with their second match-up with Presentation College on Saturday, February 15
th, 2014. The Comets fell to the Saints 70-69 on February 1
st in Mayville. The second match-up of the two teams will be in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
