Strong Defensive Effort Leads Jimmies Past Comets

Comets drop to 7-15 on the season.

Mayville, N.D. -- The Comet men played their second NSAA conference game against the University of Jamestown on Saturday, February 8th, 2014 at the Lewey Lee Fieldhouse.

The Jimmies defense was on point in the first half, holding the Comets to 7-of-19 shooting and just 16 points. The Comets remained within striking distance because of their defense in the first half as well. The Jimmies shot 12-of-29 in the opening 20 minutes and went into the locker room ahead 29-16.

The Comet offense got going a little more in the second half, unfortunately, so did the Jimmies. Brequan Tucker and Mark Hoge led the way for Jamestown, each pouring in 17 points.

The MSU offense struggled to get any flow in this game with Michael Lindsay being the only Comet to hit double figures with a team-high 13 points and six rebounds. David Olson (7), Easton Page (6), Alex Herman (6), Jonathon Butler (4), Colin Fitz (4), and Andrew Berge (2) rounded out the scoring for the Comets.

The Jimmies shot the lights out in the second half going 16-of-28 for a 57 perecent clip. Much of that was attributed to great passing as the team accounted for 19 assists in the game.

The Comets outside shooting was not there tonight as they were 3-of-17 from the three-point line in the game.

Mayville State (7-15, 0-5 NSAA) will play Valley City State University (12-11, 3-1 NSAA) on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the Sports Bubble in Valley City, North Dakota. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
