Box Score MAYVILLE, ND – After a long stretch on the road, the Comets returned home to face off against UM-Morris at home in a nightly doubleheader of action. The women captured a win in their game beforehand, so the men were fighting to get a home sweep on the evening.
In first half action, the Comets came out strong with an 8-0 run to get things started with two quick 3's by Daniel Lindgren and Gorg Alhag, plus a bucket by Taylor Delaughter. It helped set the tone of the game with many Comets contributing on the evening. After going scoreless for the first three minutes, UM-Morris came with a run of their own, climbing back with a 10-3 run to make it 11-10 in quick fashion. The Comets bounced back with another 13-2 run to go ahead 24-12. Alhag went on a run of his own to score 7 straight points for the Comets, enroute to build the lead up to 14 at the half, 47-33. Alhag was leading the way for the Comets at the half with 14 points, followed by 13 from Cameron Epps.
The second half was a different story, as UM-Morris started things out with a 9-3 run, and pushed the edge a bit more by continuing to be a bother to the Comets.Cameron Epps continued to be in a steady rhythm for the Comets, adding ten in a row at one point to keep the Comets in the lead midway through the second half. The Cougars kept being stingy and Noah Grove continued the attack for the Cougars, his strong play helped Morris sneak to within four points with 7:29 to play on a Cougar timeout. Some steady 3-point shooting from Daniel Lindgren helped the Comets pull away in the end, as he hit two of his six three-pointers on the night in the final stretch. When the buzzer sounded, it was the Comets completing the sweep over the Cougars, 84-77.
MSU's Cameron Epps and UMM's Noah Grove were both leading scorers with 26 points each. Epps had 18 of his 26 from behind the arc, shooting 6-10 on 3's. He wasn't alone in the hot shooting, with Lindgren adding 18 points, all from 3-point territory. Gorg Alhag added 18 points as well. As a team, the Comets nailed 16 of 39 for 3's, and shot 45% from the floor overall. Daymarrco Green had three steals and six assists on the night. As a team, the Comets had 21 assists, 38 rebounds, and nine steals.
Next action for the Comets will be a rematch down in Morris, MN against UM-Morris once again next Tuesday. That tipoff will be earlier at 5:30 PM, as the men and women are flipping game times.Â
