The Mayville State University Comets Women's Basketball team took the court Saturday night, taking on a non-conference opponent, Providence University, in an exhibition game at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse. Mayville State led from the start to the finish, outlasting the Pilots 90-49.
The big point of the game was the first quarter, when Mayville State outscored Providence 24-9. The turning point was a 10-0 run by Mayville State, spanning just shy of four minutes.
Alissa Foster's basket with 4:57 left in the first gave Mayville State a 13-3 lead. Providence then went on a quick run down the court to cut the lead to nine.
The Comets would then run away with the lead, going ahead by as much as 13 points, on a trey by
Cyan Hale with just over three minutes left in the opening quarter.
Mayville State held Providence scoreless for the last 2:06 of the contest.
Leading the way for Mayville state in scoring was Foster, who went 6-of-9 from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc, with 20 points. Two others were in double-figures:
Kylee Heurung with 11 points; and Hale with 10 points for Mayville State.
Leading the Pilots was Hannah Van Schie with 14 points, while Taylor Goodbrandson added 10 points for the visiting Pilots.
Mayville State shot .402 from the field for the game, making 33 of 82 shots in the contest.
