The NAIA released their Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll on Wednesday morning and the Comets found themselves ranked #23 entering the 2019-20 season. The Comets finished last season with a 19-8 overall record and Coach
Dennis Hutter's team is already 1-0 on the season with a win over Brandon University last Saturday afternoon.
"It's nice to be looked at by our peers as a good team at the national level and it is quite an honor and achievement for our players to be looked at as one of the Top 25 teams in the country," explained Coach Hutter. "We know we still have a lot of work to do to get to where we want to be at the end of the year, so we are continuing to try and get 1% better every day."
Another notable team that cracked the Top 25 is Morningside (Iowa) at #19, the Comets will square off against the Mustangs on December 29th in Sioux City, Iowa. The only other team in the North Star Athletic Association to receive votes for the Top 25 was Bellevue with 31 votes, the Bruins finished last season with a 23-10 overall record and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament before falling in the opening round. The Comets will be back in action at home this weekend with games against Providence University College on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. and Sunday has a 1 p.m. start time.
