BEMIDJI, MINN – The Mayville State University men's basketball team took to the road Friday night, as they crossed the North Dakota-Minnesota border for a battle against the Bemidji State University Beavers at the BSU Gymnasium. Bemidji State led from start to finish, defeating Mayville State 100-60. Friday's game was an exhibition for the Comets, which means the game will not count towards the Comets' overall record.
Jalen Valverde's bucket with 9:54 to go in the first half was as close as the game came for the Comets.
Simon Ramirez had 11 points to lead the Comets, with seven coming from the free throw line.
Rene Melendez also was in double digits, with 10 points.
Mayville State shot 30 percent from the field, including 25 percent from the three-point line. The Comets were 20-of-25 from the free throw line. The Comets turned the ball over 15 times, with 10 coming in the first half alone.
"I really liked how our guys improved in some key areas from last game against Mount Marty," head coach
Darren Tighe said. "We still have some things we need to clean up, but you can see the progress being made."
The Comets will take on Oak Hills Christian College Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Bemidji.
