The Comets struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Mount Marty on Sunday, giving up 16 runs.
The Lancers built their lead with two runs in the second, Colin Muth tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring a run and Corey Roach's sac fly scored another for Mount Marty early on.Â
Mount Marty College then scored four runs in the sixth inning from RBI by Billy Hancock, Justin Miller, and Gabriel Leon.
Claude Bova got the start for Mount Marty. He lasted five and a third innings, allowing five hits and one run while striking out three.
Craig Broadman was on the pitcher's mound for the Comets. He went two and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on seven hits.
Gabe Lizarraga and
Osvaldo Escobar entered the game as relief, throwing three innings and one-third of an inning respectively.
Brady Nygaard homered in the second inning for the Comets on the afternoon, going deep over the center field fence.
Nygaard went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead MSU in hits.
Mount Marty collected 19 hits on the day. Justin Miller led the Lancers with four hits in four at bats on the day.Â
