Mayville State watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 3-1 loss to the Roosevelt University Lakers on Monday. The Lakers scored on a fielder's choice by Amber Green and a groundout from McKayla Bowen in the second inning to give them the lead and eventual win.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Roosevelt pitcher Madison Lentz struck out two, while
Shaye Kemball sat down seven.
The Lakers pulled away for good with the two runs in the second inning. Kemball induced Green to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored and Bowen grounded out next, scoring another.
Kemball started the game for Mayville State, she went six innings, allowing three runs on two hits, striking out seven with no walks.
Jade Ledochowski,
Alissa Foster, and
Annika Seedborg each collected a hit for Mayville State, but that's as many as they would get as a team. Roosevelnt's Lentz only allowed three hits and walked two on the day, limiting the Comets' change at a comeback.
