The Comets watched the game slip away early and could never dig themselves out of the hole in an 11-0 loss to Benedictine Mesa on Wednesday night.
Benedictine Mesa got things started in the first inning when Hunter Hudson singled on a 3-1 count, scoring Kelby Richardson for the early lead.
From there, the Redhawks tacked on two runs in the third innings, four in the fourth, and four more in the fifth. The Comets never found their bats and had a tough time defensively containing Benedictine Mesa, giving up 11 runs on the night.
Gehrig Parks got the win for Benedictine Mesa. He lasted five innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out seven and walking none. Jose Arriola and Kristian Samorano entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Josh Rodriguez took the loss for Mayville State. He lasted three innings, allowing seven hits and six runs while striking out six.
The Comets are scheduled to take on Lourdes University tomorrow afternoon down in Tucson, Ariz. First pitch for 2:30 p.m. CDT.Â
