Jon Pluth wasted no opportunities at the plate on Friday, driving in four on three hits to lead the Comets past Bethesda University 19-9. Pluth drove in runs on a single in the sixth, a double in the seventh, and a single in the eighth.
The Comets got things started in the second inning when an error scored a run for MSU. Then later, the Comets busted the game open with six runs in the sixth inning. Mayville State batters contributing to the big inning included Pluth, Zach Foster,
Jared McCorrister, and
Quinton Bidon, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Bethesda University scored four runs in the eighth inning. Dylan Schafer, Tyler Rios, and Hector Rodriguez each had RBIs in the frame.
Austin Herrington took the win for the Comets. He surrendered three runs on four hits over six innings, striking out four. Bidon and
Tait Ludwick entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
David Martin took the loss for Bethesda University. He allowed six hits and seven runs over five innings, striking out three.
Mayville State collected 19 hits and Bethesda University had nine in the high-scoring affair.
Payton Yoshioka, Foster, Pluth,
Brady Nygaard, McCorrister, Bidon, and
Riley Nelson each racked up multiple hits for the Comets. Pluth, Foster, and Yoshioka led the way with three hits apiece.Â
