Comets Drop Two to Bruins


Comets 1, Bruins 10
Nothing came easy for the Comets in the first game of their doubleheader on Friday, as they fell 10-1 to Bellevue University.

Stephen Knapp was credited with the victory for the Bruins, he allowed seven hits and one run over nine innings, striking out three.

Craig Broadman took the loss for Mayville State. He surrendered six runs on eight hits over four and a third innings, striking out one and walking none.

The Bruins managed to score a pair of funs in four straight innings to build their lead, led by RBI from Kody Banks and Travis Tanaka. 

The lone run for the Comets came in the sixth when Riley Nelson singled to right field, bringing in Paxton Ketchum to make it 1-6 at that point. 

The Comets tallied seven hits in the game, Paxton Ketchum and Riley Nelson each racked up a pair of hits to lead the way for the Comets.

Comets 3, Bruins 6
In game two, the Comets fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 6-3 loss to Bellevue. The Bruins got things moving in the first inning when JT Patterson singled in Kory Longaker to make it 1-0. 

Bellevue then scored five runs in the third inning to build their lead. The big inning for the Bruins came thanks to a single by Daniel Teasley, a home run by Riley Baasch, a groundout by Travis Tanaka, and a double from Kody Banks.

The Comets lost despite out-hitting Bellevue University nine to seven in the game. 

MSU put up three runs in the sixth to make things interesting with a rally led by singles from Zach Foster and Adrian Zubia and a fielder's choice RBI from Quinton Bidon. 

Colton Walker pitched the Bruins to victory. He surrendered three runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out six and walking one.

Josh Rodriguez took the loss for the Comets after surrendering six runs on six hits over four innings, striking out four.

MSU tallied nine hits in the game. Paxton Ketchum and Jared McCorrister both managed multiple hits for the Comets on the day with Ketchum going 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Comets.
