Comets Split on Friday


Comets 4, Cougars 6
Mayville State fell 6-4 to Saint Xavier University on Friday despite out-hitting them 13 to six.

The Comets got on the board first in the second inning when Tai Yamamoto singled in Alissa Foster to make it 1-0 early. MSU then went up 2-0 after Brooke Roeges drove in Jade Ledochowski in the fourth inning. 

From there, Saint Xavier found a big inning and pulled away for good with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Amanda Ruskowsky singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run, Frankie Demack doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, Lyda Robinson singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, and Taylor Sterkowitz doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

The Comets were able to respond in the the fifth with a home run from Kemball then scored another in the sixth, but that's as close as MSU would get, losing 6-4.

Allison Gollic led things off in the circle for Saint Xavier. She lasted four innings, allowing ten hits and three runs while striking out five.

Shaye Kemball started the game for Mayville State. She allowed six hits and six runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four. Lindsey Swanson threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Mayville State tallied 13 hits on the day. Kemball and Foster each collected three hits to lead Mayville State University.


Comets 1, Jackets 0
Annika Seedborg didn't allow a single run against the Graceland University Yellowjackets, throwing a complete game shutout and leading the Comets to a 1-0 victory on Friday.

The pitching was strong on both sides. Seedborg struck out nine, while Madison Springs sat down seven for Graceland.

The lone run in the game came off an error after Shaye Kemball hit the ball hard on the ground, Dayna Gutierrez was able to score on the play to make it 1-0. That was all Seedborg would need.

Seedborg went seven innings, allowing five hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking one.

Alissa Foster led Mayville State with two hits in three at bats in the game.
