Comets Fall to Morningside Twice

Comets 3, Mustangs 4
The Comets watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 4-3 loss to Morningside College in game one on Tuesday. Morningside College got things started in the second inning when an error scored a run for the Mustangs, from there the home team put another one up in the bottom third to make it 2-0.

Mayville State responded with a run in the fourth, but the Mustangs grew their lead to 4-1 in the bottom half of the inning.

The Comets made things interesting in the seventh with two runs, but Morningside was able to hold on for the 4-3 win.

Camden Parks was credited with the victory for Morningside College. He went two innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out one. Aaron Homme, Colby Seuntjens, and Elliot Conover all put in work in relief out of the bullpen. Conover recorded the last out to earn the save for Morningside.

Kenny Stewart took the loss for the Comets. He went one inning, allowing one run on one hit and walking one. Austin Herrington started the game for MSU. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, walking one. Josh Rodriguez, Craig Broadman, and Oz Escobar all saw action on the mound in game one as well.

The Comets totaled six hits. Jon Pluth and Quinton Bidon each racked up two hits to lead the way for the Comets in the loss.

MSU fell to the Mustangs 3-2 in game two on the final play of the game when Andrew Kasperbauer flew out to center field, driving in Levi Davidson on the tag up for the walk-off win.

The Mustangs got things started with a run in the third and another in the fourth. The Comets came back with a run in the fifth when Paxton Ketchum singled up the middle, bringing in Riley Nelson to make it 2-1.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Comets tied things up at two after Zachary Foster scored on a hard ground ball from Brady Nygaard that wasn't handled by the Mustang fielder.

Davidson led the bottom of the eighth off with a double to left field, then advanced to third on an error later in the inning to set up the winning run.

Jake Cera was the winning pitcher for Morningside after allowing five hits and two runs over four innings, walking none.
