Comets 4, Saints 9
Friday's first game against Presentation was a tough one for the Comets, as they lost the lead late in a 9-4 defeat. Three runs in the top of the sixth from the Comets were answered with five runs from the Saints in the bottom half of the inning to give them the lead and eventual win.
Presentation College fired up the offense in the second inning when Anthony Guzman drove in a run when he singled. MSU responded with a run of their own the next inning when
Evyn Yamaguchi doubled to right field, driving in
Payton De Luca to tie things at one.Â
Quinton Bidon got the runs going in the sixth when he doubled to center, driving in
Jared McCorrister and
Zachary Foster.
Brady Nygaard followed that with a double of his own to bring in Bidon to make it 4-1.Â
The 5-run response in the sixth from the Saints saw them lead things off with a home run, then two runs came in after an error, and then an RBI single made things 5-4. The Saints would then add three more insurance runs the next inning to extend their lead.
Chris D'Amico led things off on the hill for Presentation. He surrendered four runs on six hits over five and two-thirds innings, and striking out six.
Austin Herrington led things off on the pitcher's mound for the Comets. He surrendered four runs on five hits over five innings, striking out seven.
Gabe Lizarraga and
Adam Senden entered the game from the bullpen, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.
Evyn Yamaguchi led Mayville State with three hits in four at bats and an RBI.
Comets 4, Saints 8
The Comets scored three runs in the fourth inning when
Brady Nygaard hit a 3-run bomb over the center field fence. Unfortunately, that was one of the only bright spots for MSU in game two, as the Saints jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third and never looked back.
Nygaard's home run was a huge response and brought the Comets within two runs, 5-3, but that's as close as they would get. The Saints answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull away for good, winning 8-4 in seven innings.Â
Colin Crandall was on the hill for Presentation. He allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings, striking out three and walking one.
Josh Rodriguez surrendered eight runs on 11 hits over six innings for the Comets, striking out seven and walking one.
MSU had eight hits in game two. Nygaard,
Jon Pluth, and
Payton De Luca all had two hits to lead the way for the Comets.
