Comets Drop Two


Comets 3, Warriors 9
The Comets had trouble keeping up with Waldorf University in a 9-3 loss in game one on Saturday.

Waldorf was able to jump out to a 4-0 lead in the third inning. Mayville State responded in the top of the fourth with a run when Quinton Bidon drove in Adrian Zubia. The Comets brought it to 4-2 in the top of fith when Brady Nygaard drove in Jon Pluth, but that's as close as Mayville State would get. 

Waldorf would extend their lead with a home run in the fifth, then runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make it 9-3.

Mac Pearson led the Warriors to victory on the mound. He went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out two. Nicholas Ray threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Austin Herrington took the loss for Mayville State. He allowed nine hits and seven runs over six innings, striking out seven.

Adrian Zubia went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Comets at the plate.

Waldorf tallied 11 hits in the game. Cal Fazzio, Alejandro Gonzales, and Brett Stenlund each racked up multiple hits to lead the way for Waldorf. 

Comets 1, Warriors 7
The Comets fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 7-1 loss in game two. Waldorf took the lead on a double in the bottom of the first inning, from there they would build their lead with three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

The Comets opened up the scoring when Quinton Bidon's sac fly scored Riley Nelson. But that's as much as Mayville State would get in game two. 

Heath Chapman pitched Waldorf to victory. He allowed six hits and one run over five and two-thirds innings, striking out five. Andrew Benns threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Gabe Lizarraga took the loss for the Comets. He went five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out three.

Brady Nygaard went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Comets at the plate.
