Comets 2, Warriors 3
Both teams were strong on the mound in game one on Sunday, but Waldorf was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over the Comets.
Mayville State got things started in the second inning when
Adam Senden singled on a 2-2 count, scoring
Quinton Bidon and
Brady Nygaard to give the Comets a 2-0 lead early.
Waldorf evened things up at two in the bottom of the third inning when Matt Palmer's sac fly scored a run for the Warriors.
Waldorf would gain the lead and pull away for good with one run in the fifth inning after Joey Ponder hit a solo home run.
Garrett Munoz got the win for Waldorf. He allowed four hits and two runs over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Nick Perfetto and Nicholas Ray entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Osvaldo Escobar took the loss for Comets. He surrendered one run on one hit over two innings, walking none.
Craig Broadman started the game for Comets. He lasted three innings, allowing four hits and two runs while walking one
Quinton Bidon led Comets at the plate with two hits in three at bats.
Comets 2, Warriors 10
The Comets fell behind early in game two and couldn't come back in a 10-2 loss. Waldorf scored on a single by Stenlund in the first inning, a error in the second inning, and a passed ball during Matt Palmer's at bat in the second inning.
The Comets struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Waldorf, giving up ten runs in the loss.
After Mayville State scored run a in the top of the third, Waldorf was able to answer with one of their own. The Comets scored when
Payton De Luca drew a walk, scoring
Adrian Zubia to bring the Comets within one. Waldorf then answered when Cal Fazzio hit a RBI single, scoring one run.
The Warriors then scored four runs in the fourth inning, one in the fifth, and one more in the sixth to make it 10-2. The offensive firepower by Waldorf was led by Joey Ponder, Matt Palmer, Brett Stenlund, and Fazzio, who all drove in runs.
Kyle Froom earned the win for Waldorf. He surrendered one run on six hits over five innings, striking out two.
Tait Ludwick took the loss for the Comets. He allowed two hits and three runs over one and one-third innings, striking out two and walking one.
The Comets totaled eight hits in the game.
Brady Nygaard and
Adrian Zubia both had two hits to lead the Comets at the plate.
