Comets Complete Sweep Over V-Hawks


Comets 2, V-Hawks 0
Shaye Kemball threw a complete game shutout to lead Mayville State past Viterbo 2-0 in the first game of three on Thursday.

Neither team was able to get across the plate in the first seven innings, but the Comets were able to take the lead after Alissa Foster went yard in the top of the eighth inning for the game winning runs.

The pitching very strong on both sides. Kemball went eight innings and only gave up two hits, striking out nine and walking one. Kendyl Schine was on the rubber for the V-Hawks. She surrendered two runs on ten hits over eight innings.

The Comets tallied ten hits in the game. Foster, Tai Yamamoto, Amanda Izzo, and Kemball all had two hits to lead the way for Mayville State.


Comets 2, V-Hawks 0
Annika Seedborg saw what Shaye Kemball did in game one and decided that it looked fun, so she did the same and threw another complete game shutout to lead the Comets past the V-Hawks 2-0 again in game two.

Mayville State got things started in the second inning when Jade Ledochowski tripled on a 0-2 count, scoring Alissa Foster. Laura Spurgeon singled in the next at bat and brought Ledochowski in to make it 2-0. That was all Seedborg would need.

Seedborg went all seven innings, allowing five hits and no runs while striking out eight and walking none.

The pitching was strong again on both sides. Seedborg struck out eight, while Caitlyn Kozik sat down seven after going seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs. 

Dayna Gutierrez, Nicole Bunting, Laura Spurgeon, Alissa Foster, Ledochowski, and Seedborg each collected a hit to lead Mayville State. 

Taylor Pacana went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the V-Hawks at the plate in game two.


Comets 7, V-Hawks 5
Mayville State completed the sweep over Viterbo despite an early 3-run inning. 

The Comets weathered a push from Viterbo in the second inning where MSU gave up three runs, powered by a two-run home run from Taylor Vance. 

Mayville State came back nicely and captured the lead for good with five runs in the third inning. In that inning, Alissa Foster hit a solo homer, Sierra Niedge doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs, Nicole Bunting singled on a 2-2 count, scoring another run, and Shaye Kemball doubled, scoring Nicole Bunting to make it 7-4.

Lindsey Swanson got the start for Mayville State. She allowed eight hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out two.

Caitlyn Almberg led things off on the rubber for Viterbo. She gave up six runs on eight hits over two and a third innings. Brooklyn Ottelien threw four and two-thirds innings in relief.

Mayville State totaled 13 hits in game three. Niedge, Foster, Kemball, and Gutierrez each racked up multiple hits for the Comets. Niedge went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Mayville State in hits.

Viterbo had eight hits in the game. Vance and Alyssa Nilssen each had multiple hits to the lead the way for Viterbo.
