Comets Can't Get By Vikings

Comets 1, Vikings 7
Mayville State watched the game slip away in the sixth and couldn't recover in a 7-1 loss to VCSU in game one of the doubleheader Tuesday. The Comets struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing VCSU.

The Vikings got things moving in the first inning when Marissa Hawkins singled on a 1-1 count, scoring a run. Then Kadie Anderson brought in two more in the third with her double to center field.

VCSU added three more runs in the sixth inning to pull away for good. The offense in the inning was led by Joelle Aiello, Riley Perryman, and Hawkins, all knocking in runs in the inning.

The Comets managed a run in the fourth, but Emily Smith was tough in the circle. She lasted six innings, allowing two hits and one run while striking out nine with no walks. Amber Stewart threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Shaye Kemball took the loss for Mayville State. She went five and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on nine hits, striking out three and walking one.

VCSU tallied ten hits on the day. Hawkins, Tatum Lundin, Voni Culp, and Aiello all had multiple hits to lead the way for the Vikings.

Comets 0, Vikings 1
It was a pitchers' duel in game two with both sides coming out strong in the circle, but the Vikings were just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over MSU.

Tatum Lundin was able to get things going with a hit in the third inning, then she was able to come around to score after Joelle Aiello singled on a line drive to right field two batters later.

That was all Emilee Wilson would need. She went six and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on three hits, striking out seven and walking one. Emily Smith threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Annika Seedborg started the game for Mayville State University and recorded 21 outs. She surrendered one run on three hits over seven innings, striking out three with no walks.

Laura Spurgeon, Sierra Niedge, and Alissa Foster each managed a hit to lead Mayville State in game two.
